Reading your number

Runway under 3 years: talk to an elder law attorney now about Medicaid planning - the 5-year look-back rewards early action - and ask every community whether they accept Medicaid after private pay. 3-7 years: you have options; compare communities on their Medicaid policy anyway, and read the full funding toolkit. Over 7 years: choose on fit, not fear - and still get the fee schedule in writing.

This is arithmetic, not financial advice. Costs rise with care needs, not just inflation - treat the runway as optimistic, and pressure-test big decisions with a fee-only financial planner or elder law attorney.
